NISO Input Forum Projects

For the group developing standards for e-book annotations, sharing of these needs to be more discriminatory than the current "all or nothing" that Amazon does with Kindle. I would like to be able to:
1) Share some annotations but not others (both within the same title or across different titles).

Georeferenced images (historic maps, etc) are available from many sources, but there is no one place to discover and use an amazing wealth of resources.

Now that EPUB3 is published and the DAISY Consortium endorses EPUB3 where accessibility and mainstream standards can converge, how can EPUB3 be best used to support accessibility?

 

Can NISO play a role in helping to draft best practice documents and instructions for accessible use of EPUB3?

Develop best practices for creating, organizing, providing discovery of and access to geo-referenced images (for example digitized historic maps or aerial photographs). This could include suggestions for:

Access points: coordinates, scale, resolution, date(s), format, title, publisher

Access point standards: WKT, LCSH, TGM

Workflows and networked data: Geonames, LC coordinate-enhanced subjects, OCLC coordinate-enhanced... more »

Chapter-level products are now emerging in the marketplace. Can NISO sponsor creation of a chapter-level identifier for the sales channel? Can NISO sponsor creation of best practices for chapter distribution - for example, what additional material (such as front matter, etc.) should be included in the distribution?
